Things to do in Costa Rica
Costa Rica has so much diversity to offer. It is difficult to mention all the things or places you could see or visit, but here are a few you might want to consider while you travel in this beautiful Country in you rental car!
One of the cool things about Costa Rica is you can be hiking in the high altitude “cold” weather of Poas Volcano in the morning and have a Piña Colada on the hot beach enjoying the sunset in the afternoon, all in ONE DAY! The road is yours, having a rental car gives your this freedom. All you have to do is pick the destination.
MONTEZUMA BEACH & WATERFALL
Known for its Bohemian atmosphere and the stunning natural beauty of its beaches and waterfalls, Montezuma is perfect for any beach lover and echo tourist.
AVELLANAS BEACH
Avellanas is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Tamarindo area. Surf conditions in Avellanas are perfect throughout the year with swells coming in both from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
BAJOS DEL TORO
A visit to the Cataratas del Toro, is an experience you’ll never forget.
NAUYACA WATERFALL
Located just 20 minutes from Dominical, it is truly one of the most majestic waterfalls Costa Rica has to offer. Once you get to the main entrance, you can get to the waterfall by horseback riding or a 40-45 minute hike. Water is cold and the weather is hot so this makes it a PERFECT combination!
LA PAZ WATERFALL
This is the number one ecological attraction in Costa Rica with incredibly easy hiking trails as well as stunning waterfalls. It is a destination that’s truly worthy of a visit.
PACUARE RIVER RAFTING
The Pacuare River, is rated one of the top rafting rivers in the world. It is an amazing Costa Rica day-trip. You’ll raft through incredible rainforests on 19 miles of Class III-IV whitewater.
RIO CELESTE
Rio Celeste is located in Guatuso, Alajuela, in the Tenorio Volcano National Park.
This is one of the most popular rivers in Costa Rica and it is well known in the world by its particularly natural color from light blue to turquoise.
MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK
Located in the Province of Puntarenas, Quepos, about 3.5 hours from San Jose.
It is one of the smallest parks in Costa Rica but it is the most visited due to its varied fauna with 109 species of mammals and 184 of birds.
POAS VOLCANO
Located in Alajuela Province, Poas Volcano makes for a thrilling day-trip destination only 1 ½ hours away from San Jose. The walk from the entrance to the crater lake view point is very short and it is disability friendly!

IRAZU VOLCANO
Irazu Volcano National Park is 55 kilometers (34 miles) east of San Jose in the Cartago province.
This mountain is one of the most famous in Costa Rica, and it is even one of the most famous volcanoes in the world.
ARENAL VOLCANO
Arenal Volcano National Park is the second most visited national park in Costa Rica. It is located in La Fortuna, San Carlos, Alajuela Province, about 3.5 hours from San Jose, depending on traffic. It offers a variety of hot springs, hiking trails, horseback riding, wakeboarding at the Lago Arenal, and many more activities.
