Sun Valley Rent A Car was founded by Andrew (“Andy”) Hersey, originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. Andy was an avid car enthusiast and a big Elvis Presley fan. He owned his first car at the young age of thirteen, although he couldn’t legally drive it until three years later, much to the amusement of his parents.
In his early career in Florida, Andy established a successful automobile paint and body repair business, Andy’s Custom Auto Works. He earned a reputation for his expertise and reliability, especially with specialty cars, custom paint jobs, insurance claims, Corvettes, and custom vans. His passion for cars and exceptional craftsmanship made him well-known in the industry.
In 1984, Andy sold his business and relocated to Santa Ana, Costa Rica. Five years later, he welcomed another son, Aaron Hersey. While in Costa Rica, Andy started another thriving auto body repair business, Andy’s Taller de Carrocería Para Autos. The idea of renting cars naturally followed, as Andy often had a stock of personal vehicles and a steady stream of friends and acquaintances visiting Costa Rica, needing reliable rentals at affordable and transparent rates. This venture evolved into Sun Valley Rent A Car, gaining international recognition and contributing to the local economy.
Andy’s son, Aaron, worked closely with him for many years, learning the ins and outs of car repair and business management. Together, they focused on providing excellent customer service, affordable rates, and reliable vehicles.
Today, Sun Valley Rent A Car is proudly operated by Aaron Hersey, continuing the family legacy with the same dedication and passion his father instilled. We are committed to offering our customers a seamless rental experience, honoring Andy’s legacy of excellence and integrity.
